could a woman with such a limited background accomplish so much? Are
there other outstanding women in history that she reminds you of?
What do you think motivated Emily?
2. If Emily were to try to open her unique school today, what
obstacles would she face? Do you think it would be easier to open
this unique school in 1916 or 2006? Contrast and compare the
conditions of 1916 to today, 2006.
3. Were there any parts of the
school history that surprised you? When were the "glory days" for

paradigm shift in 1993 when it was forced to begin charging tuition.
